MARCH FOR RESPECT, RECOGNITION AND THE DOMESTIC WORKERS BILL OF RIGHTS

SATURDAY JUNE 7, 2008 11:00 AM @ CITY HALL

[TAKE THE R/W TO CITY HALL, OR THE 4/5/6 OR J/M/Z TO BROOKLYN BRIDGE]

SINCE 2004 DOMESTIC WORKERS IN NEW YORK HAVE BEEN ORGANIZING FOR RESPECT, RECOGNITION AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS IN NEW YORK STATE. OVER 200,000 WOMEN STRONG, MOST DOMESTIC WORKERS ARE PRIMARY INCOME EARNERS AND WORK HARD TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES, WHILE MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR THEIR EMPLOYERS TO GO TO WORK EVERYDAY. DESPITE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WORK, THEY ARE ISOLATED WITH NO BARGAINING POWER, EXCLUDED FROM MOST LABOR LAWS, AND VULNERABLE TO ABUSE AND EXPLOITATION.

FROM JUNE 5-8 THE FIRST NATIONAL DOMESTIC WORKERS CONGRESS WILL TAKE PLACE IN NEW YORK CITY – BRINGING TOGETHER DOMESTIC WORKERS FROM 10 CITIES AROUND THE COUNTRY TO SUPPORT THE CALL FOR THE NEW YORK DOMESTIC WORKERS BILL OF RIGHTS, AND TO HELP BUILD A NATIONAL MOVEMENT OF DOMESTIC WORKERS.

ON JUNE 7, TAKE A STAND – JOIN DOMESTIC WORKERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY WHO ARE PART OF THE NATIONAL DOMESTIC WORKERS ALLIANCE, TO SEND A MESSAGE TO LEGISLATORS AND ALL NEW YORKERS THAT WE WANT TO REVERSE THE LONG HISTORY OF INJUSTICE AND PROTECT THE WORKERS WHO MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR EVERYONE ELSE TO WORK.
