Summer Internship Program

Nodutdol’s Summer Internship Program

APPLICATION DEADLINE: All applications are due no later than April 25, 2010

Nodutdol for Korean Community Development is currently seeking summer interns to assist with the organizing of local and national events to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War. Our summer internship program aims to provide successful applicants with enriching and “hands on” experiences through our work to promote peace and reunification of the Korean peninsula. As a part of this work, Nodutdol is actively involved in the National Campaign to End the Korean War, a national coalition that aims to finally end the Korean War through a peace treaty signed by the United States and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

This year, our summer internship program has specifically placed a focus on the empowerment of young Asian and Pacific Islander American (AAPI) women. In the second year of our campaign, Nodutdol identified the need to focus on the impact of war and division on women, both in the past and present. As a result, we intend to cultivate and elevate the leadership of young AAPI women interested in becoming more involved in progressive movements for peace and social, racial and economic justice.

Nodutdol’s internship program takes a holistic approach to cultivating new leadership in progressive movements. In addition to working alongside staff, all summer interns will participate in learning sessions about the history of Korean American and AAPI movements.

We’re specifically seeking applicants to support our work in the following two areas:

Project Development Intern

We are currently looking for people who want to roll up their sleeves and gain some direct action organizing experience. Because we’re organizing events to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War (including a national action in DC), we’re in need of someone that will work alongside staff in a variety of areas.

This may include communicating with visual and sound artists, filmmakers and writers to organize 1 to 2 local events in New York City to raise awareness around the on-going Korean War and the impact of war on women; working with artists and community members to construct a public art demonstration in DC; providing coordination support for local events in other regions; assisting with logistics for a press conference and gathering in DC and; mobilizing students and other interested participants in this project.

Nodutdol is looking for interns that are outgoing and engaging but possess a strong sense of diplomacy when working with multiple individuals and organizations. You shouldn’t be afraid of taking ownership of your work but should work just as well in a team-driven setting. Applicants should either be students in a relevant academic program or possess experience in one or more of the following areas: grassroots organizing, coalition building and/or event planning.

Visual Media Intern

We are currently looking for applicants that will work closely with Nodutdol staff and its members to produce design-savvy materials to be used in local and national outreach efforts for the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War. These materials may include but are not limited to: online videos, print flyers and digital artwork. Interns may also be asked to perform other tasks.

Nodutdol is looking for self-starters that have a strong sense of design and possess flexible skills with producing appealing visual media materials. You shouldn’t be afraid of taking ownership of your work but should work just as well in a team-driven setting. Experience with using Final Cut Pro, PhotoShop and/or Illustrator would be helpful. Applicants should either be students in a relevant academic program or possess experience in one or more of the following areas: visual design, interactive design, website development and/or video editing.

Commitment

  • The summer internship will last for ten weeks from May 17 through July 30.

  • Interns are expected to work 10-15 hours per week.

  • The actual intern schedule will be determined at the beginning of the internship.

Compensation

Nodutdol is happy to work with interns on securing academic credit for their time with us. Occasional meals, snacks and beverages will be covered to keep you buzzing along. We will also provide interns with a monthly Metrocard for 2 months.
