As anti-imperialist Koreans, we stand unequivocally with Palestine, its people, and its armed resistance against the Zionist occupation. Since 1948, when over 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their ancestral lands, the Palestinian people have resisted annexations, bombings, segregation, displacement, and massacres. This is neither a two-sided conflict nor a war: it is an occupation and a genocide.
As Koreans whose homeland is divided, we know that imperialism is our common enemy. Following our liberation from Japanese colonialism and the beginning of independent socialist construction in Korea, the US split our country in two and indiscriminately bombed and killed our people. There is a reason the Nakba and the division of Korea both happened in 1948, backed by the same imperialist interests.
Both Korea and Palestine are geographically strategic sites for the US empire’s grip across the world. Occupying Korea gives the US a foothold in East Asia, and funding the Zionist occupation of Palestine gives the US a foothold in the Middle East. The US knows that an independent Korea and a free Palestine would strengthen liberation struggles everywhere and threaten the imperialist partition of the world.
The US’s forever war in Korea shows us that a ceasefire does not end an occupation. Despite the 1953 ceasefire to the Korean War, our country remains divided and at war today. 70 years later, the US is still occupying the south and sanctioning the north. The ceasefire did not end the war — it only gave it new life. Therefore, we demand more than just an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. We demand an end to the Zionist occupation of Palestine, once and for all.
US-backed south Korea has allied with israel. The two signed a free trade agreement in 2019, and israel routinely supplies south Korea’s military weapons. Although south Korean defense companies are prevented by law from selling to “countries engaged in conflict,” they are working to circumvent this by increasing arms sales to the US, who will then sell those arms to israel. On the other hand, north Korea has stood in solidarity with Palestine for decades. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, north Korea armed Palestinians and provided military training to Palestine’s freedom fighters. To this day, north Korea refuses to recognize israel, calling it an “imperialist satellite.”
As people living in the heart of the US empire, it is our duty to stand with Palestine. Zionism is not a religion. It is a political ideology created to serve Western capital, rooted in racism and colonialism. The Zionist forces bombing Palestinian hospitals also train police who terrorize us here in the US. We call on all Koreans to stand with the Palestinian people in their struggle against our common enemy. And we call on all who read this statement to materially support Palestinian organizations, and to join an organization if you are not in one already.
The Palestinian people have waged a steadfast struggle, and the world’s masses have embraced the Palestinian cause as our own. Power to every Palestinian fighting for their freedom, and glory to all the martyrs. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. From Baekdusan to Hallasan, Korea will be one. 팔레스타인 해방을 위하여!

한국과 팔레스타인 두 지역은 미제국이 전 세계를 장악하기 위해 선택한 지리적으로 전략적인 지역들입니다. 한국을 점령하는 것은 미국에게 동아시아에서의 발판을 제공하고, 시오니스트의 팔레스타인 점령에 자금을 지원하는 것은 미국에게 중동에서의 발판을 제공합니다. 미국은 독립된 한국과 해방된 팔레스타인이 전세계 모든 곳에서의 해방 투쟁을 강화하고 제국주의의 세계적인 분할을 위협할 것이라는 것을 알고 있습니다.
미국의 끝나지 않는 한국 전쟁은 휴전이 점령을 끝내지 않는다는 것을 우리에게 보여줍니다. 1953년 한국전쟁의 휴전에도 불구하고 우리나라는 오늘날에도 여전히 분단되어 있고 전쟁 중입니다. 70년이 지난 지금도 미국은 남부를 점령하고 북부를 제재하고 있습니다. 휴전은 전쟁을 끝낸 것이 아니라 전쟁에 새로운 생명을 불어넣었을 뿐입니다. 그렇기에 우리는 가자 지구의 즉각적인 휴전뿐만 아니라 그 이상의 것을 요구합니다. 우리는 시온주의자들의 팔레스타인 점령을 끝끝내 종식시킬 것을 요구합니다.
미국의 지원을 받는 남한은 이스라엘과 동맹을 맺었습니다. 미국과 남한은 2019년 자유무역협정(FTA)을 체결했고, 이스라엘은 한국에 정기적으로 군사무기를 공급하고 있습니다. 한국의 방산업체들이 ‘분쟁 국가들’에 판매하는 것이 법적으로 금지되고 있지만, 이를 회피하기 위해 미국으로의 무기 판매를 늘리고 있으며, 미국은 해당 무기들을 이스라엘에 판매하고 있습니다.
반면 북한은 수십년 동안 팔레스타인과 연대해 왔습니다. 북한은 1970년대와 1980년대에 팔레스타인 사람들을 무장시켰고 팔레스타인 자유투사들에게 군사훈련을 제공했습니다. 오늘날까지도 북한은 이스라엘을 ‘제국주의 위성’이라고 부르며 인정하기를 거부하고 있습니다.
미제국의 심장부에 살고 있는 인민으로서 팔레스타인과 함께 서는 것은 우리의 의무입니다. 시오니즘은 종교가 아닙니다. 서구 자본의 탐욕을 채우기 위해 인종차별과 식민주의에 뿌리를 두고 만들어진 정치적 이념입니다. 팔레스타인 병원을 폭격하는 시온주의 세력은 여기 미국 땅에서 우리를 박해하는 경찰들을 훈련시킵니다.
우리는 모든 한국인이 공동의 적에 저항하는 팔레스타인 국민에 함께 설 것을 촉구합니다. 그리고 우리는 이 성명서를 읽는 모든 사람에게 팔레스타인 단체들을 물질적으로 지원하고, 아직 단체에 가입하지 않은 경우 가입할 것을 촉구합니다.
