Nodutdol for Korean Community Development stands with the Wet’suwet’en nation in their fight to exercise their sovereign right to deny Coastal Gas Link access to its unceded territories.
Nodutdol is a grassroots organization of diasporic Koreans and comrades. Given the U.S. military’s occupation of the Korean peninsula and the Asia Pacific, the struggle for peace, decolonization, and self-determination in Korea is contingent on the liberation of Indigenous nations in North America from settler colonialism and capitalism. We recognize the machinery of imperial power, from the Asia Pacific to the Indigenous lands of so-called America. We demand that Canada recognize the sovereignty of the Wet’suwet’en nation.
We condemn all attempts by the Coastal GasLink Pipeline, Canadian federal or provincial governments, and Canadian law enforcement or military agencies to violate the sovereign rights of the Wet’suwet’en nation. We affirm the collective hereditary governance of the Wet’suwet’en and recognize their right to enforce collective Title and Anuk Nu’at’en (Wet’suwet’en laws).
Accordingly, we demand that all actions taken by the Canadian federal and provincial government, industry, and policing or military agencies be consistent with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Wet’suwet’en laws, and collective Title. We commend the courage and vision of land defenders at Unist’ot’en Camp and pledge our unwavering support for the right of Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs to exercise their sovereignty.
We call on fellow Koreans who are fighting to end the Korean war and establish peace on the Korean peninsula to express solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en nation and pursue action to pressure the governments of British Columbia and Canada. Nodutdol commits to deepening our knowledge of and engagement with decolonial practice, including but not limited to supported group study, hosting a screening of the documentary Invasion, and developing relations with Indigenous groups working in Lenapehoking.
In Solidarity,
Nodutdol for Korean Community Development
